Forecast your FUTURE
Christmas Eve is make-or-break time for children fortunate enough to be expecting gifts. Has anyone paid attention to their wish-list? Will Santa Claus bring them that much-desired gift?
Over 750,000 children a year in the UK alone write a 'letter to Santa' in the run-up to Christmas. His address and special postcode is Reindeerland, SAN TA1.
What is on your wish-list? Maybe you don't care too much what you receive by way of a Christmas gift, but would dearly love to see a more caring society, a more peaceful world, or a healthier environment. Well, these certainly aren't going to be brought by Santa Claus - or by any single individual. They are problems that you are going to have to help sort out yourself.
...write a letter to yourself
Take Action
Write a letter to yourself, which you will open and read in 10 or 25 years' time.
Write about the issue that you want to do something about. What impact do you think you will be able to make? How would you like things to be in the future? And what do you think things will actually be like then?
You could add some personal thoughts - your current state of mind, how you spend your time, if you are in love with anyone, how you see your life evolving, your ambitions for the future...
Hide the letter, or, if you think you will lose it or be too tempted to open it before the time is up, give it to someone else to keep for you.
It will be fascinating to read your letter in the future. You will be able to compare how things are now, with the world as it will be then. And your current aspirations and emotional state with those of the person you will have become.

Operation Santa Claus: At the New York Post Office in the 1920s, postal clerks started opening some of the letters to Santa and, touched by some of the requests, dug into their own pockets to pay for presents. This has now become Operation Santa Claus, and the idea has been copied by other post offices in the USA.
The idea is simple. Postal staff volunteer to sort through the mail (around 200,000 letters to Santa are received each year) and select those that appear to be from needy inner-city children. Members of the public come to the Post Office, read through some of the mail and take away letters they would like to reply to with a gift.
Letters to Santa is a website that was inspired by New York's Operation Santa Claus. You can download Christmas carols (words and sheet music), classic Chrismas stories, safety tips, and even track Santa's progress on Christmas Eve.
