LIGHT UP the world
Do you want to change the world while you sleep? You can be curled up in your warm bed, dreaming of desert islands and exotic fruit cocktails complete with miniature umbrellas - and still be sending out a message to passers by.
We all have our own ideas about how to improve the state of the world. Why not write up a message in lights and hang it up outside your house or apartment?
Be as political, as fun, as serious, or as silly as you want. You are only limited by your ideas, your spelling, the space you have available, and how many lights you can afford.
This is a great way of spreading a message in an innovative way.
Don't be surprised when people all over your neighbourhood pick up on your idea.
...with a message
Some ideas for messages to light up the world:
P-E-A-C-E if you're anti-war, or just as a seasonal message
V-O-T-E at election time
W-A-L-K--T-O--W-O-R-K to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
S-M-I-L-E because tomorrow will be a nice day
S-A-V-E--W-A-T-E-R in a drought
S-M-O-K-I-N-G--K-I-L-L-S a dear friend has just died of lung cancer
F-A-I-R--T-R-A-D-E to support fairtrade, of course
U-S-E--A--C-O-N-D-O-M do your bit to combat HIV/AIDS
Take Action
Get one or several strings of lights.
Spell out a message for night-time drivers and midnight amblers to see.
Hang it up in your front garden, a window or a balcony facing the street.
There are lots of 'novelty lights' on sale. 'Rope lights' are especially easy to 'write' with and come in a range of colours.
Try matching your lights to your message:
- Yellow ducks for a watery theme
- Red chilli peppers for a particularly spicy slogan
- Pink elephants to give people a laugh.
Change your message whenever you feel like it? or when you think up an even better slogan.
